Daryle Lockhart Talks About "Growing up on Wendy & Lisa"
*************************************************************************************
Being a Wendy & Lisa fan, for me, was like belonging to a frat. "Stones & Birth" is a password. If you say it or play it, and someone understands it, you know that you share an experience with someone. That experience of sitting with headphones and hearing layer after layer of clashes and resolutions. Feeling like you'd discovered something. I know for a fact that I dated girls in college who appreciated the first W&L album, and if they didn't, well, they were probably really good looking so it didn't matter.

Catherine Plato CATCHES UP WITH WENDY & LISA!
Earlier this year, Wendy & Lisa did an amazing interview with Jane And Jane Magazine's Catherine Plato. In the interview, the ladies get personal and talk about homosexuality, their 20 year relationship, and the making of White Flags of Winter Chimneys.
Below is a brief excerpt to the interview.
CATCHING UP WITH WENDY AND LISA
During the 10 years between the release of their fourth album, Girl Bros., and their most recent, White Flags of Winter Chimneys, released in February, Wendy and Lisa ended their 20-year marriage. And though they have settled into new relationships (Wendy with High Art film director Lisa Cholodenko and Lisa with the band’s manager Renata Kanclerz) and both have had children in recent years, the women continue to work together as perhaps the most functional and respectful exes in history. The new album is available through iTunes, Amazon.com and WendyandLisa.com.
J&J: How did you come up with the album title?
Lisa: The title is from a Joni Mitchell record called Hejira, and it came from that specific song. There’s a lyric in the very last verse that says “white flags of winter chimneys waving truce against the moon,” and it’s written in the form of a breakup song, actually. So she’s sitting in a cafĂ©, she’s reflecting on this relationship and all relationships that she’s had and sort of lamenting but coming off strong—which is so Joni Mitchell—and so we felt like it kind of fits what we’ve been through over the past 400 years. And being a couple, you know, Wendy and I were married for 20 years, and we survived the deaths of both of our brothers, we survived a career in the music business playing with Prince, scoring films, being women, being gay, and we’ve had all these battles and skirmishes and it’s been 10 years since our last actual CD. We’ve been scoring and we went through the breakup of our marriage and there was something about this collection of songs that seemed to sum up all of these feelings.

Wendy & Lisa Discuss 'Heroes' in Variety Article!
The article chronicles the transformation of TV theme music over the past several decades and highlights how the length of the opening theme has dwindled from 75-seconds (Laverne & Shirley) to a mere 10 seconds (Heroes).
Below, Lisa Coleman (who along with Wendy Melvoin scores the music to Heroes) discusses the opening music for Heroes:
"Heroes," by contrast, gave composers Lisa Coleman and Wendy Melvoin just 10 seconds. "You have to think in terms of 'stings,'" says Coleman, referring to the film-music tradition of brief but impactful musical statements. "We knew it had to be big and somewhat supernatural sounding. It didn't need to be terribly melodic, just atmospheric."

Heroes: Original Score CD review
Nick Smith
The hidden music of Heroes gets better exposure, courtesy of its brand new score CD...
Published on Jun 8, 2009
One of the most noticeable things about the music in Heroes is that it's so unnoticeable. There's a reason why incidental music is so-called; it's there to get us from one scene to another, not drown out the dialogue and tell us how to feel. But Heroes composer/performers Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman try their best not to stand out.

'Nurse Jackie' premieres in New York
On Tuesday night, Showtime threw a premiere and a party for "Nurse Jackie," its new half-hour comedy-drama-medical thing. They showed two episodes, and it was good! But first let us take note of something exciting. Here is a show carried by a 45-year-old woman. Its two showrunners are women. It is executive-produced by those two women plus another. Oh, yes, there are ladies: It is even scored by the wonderful Wendy and Lisa.
